Burying Sacred Texts: There is a tradition that on Tisha B’Av— the 9th day of Av (or near it) which commemorates the destruction of the Temple, a geniza is opened and sacred texts and items that are no longer able to be used are deposited. We will study the texts that underpin this ritual and then place your old prayer books, tallitot or tefillin into the geniza.
