Learn About Climate Change and What You Can Do About It

Are you interested in learning how to respond to climate change, but not sure how to have an impact? Then you will want to join us at Bet Shalom on Wednesday, January 29, 7:00 pm for “Climate Conversations,” a highly engaging 90 minute workshop.
We’ll share our own stories as we learn more about climate change, explore how our Jewish tradition calls us to respond, and find out how we can take concrete action together, practically, systemically and relationally. Bet Shalom youth members are especially welcome.
We are also hoping to continue this work by bringing together a core group of Bet Shalom members who have an interest in this critical area. Julia Nerbonne, Executive Director of MN Interfaith Power & Light, will be our facilitator. Julia is a successful statewide organizer for climate justice and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Conservation Biology Graduate Program at the University of Minnesota.

Faith Is Stronger Than Fear: Overcoming gun violence through inspiration, education and action

Every day in Minnesota, three or more people are shot. Often it falls on faith communities to lead the public mourning for those lives lost. But with nearly 40,000 Americans dying by gun violence every year, it’s time for people of faith to do more.

Congregations, faith-based organizations and individuals are invited to participate in “Faith Is Stronger than Fear,” brought to you by Protect Minnesota’s Interfaith Alliance for Gun Safety and Bet Shalom Congregation in Minnetonka. This free event will motivateeducate and activate people of faith to work together to pass sensible gun laws in Minnesota. It will begin with an interfaith service featuring readings and music from diverse faith traditions. Clergy are invited to wear vestments and gather on the bemah for the final prayer. The service will be followed by an activist training featuring Orange Star elected leaders who are committed to gun reform.

Event Schedule:

1:30-2:00pm: Sign in for those who didn’t pre-register
2:00-2:45pm: Interfaith Service
2:45-3:00pm: Break with snacks
