Happy Thanksgiving, Yarok PreK families! This shortened week has us remembering Thanksgivings past, and talking about everyone’s plans for this year. This year, the kids are talking about family party’s just at home, which is a big change for some. Everyone’s having a lot of food, but not everyone likes the same things, so in some ways, things stay the same!
Because of the shortened week, we didn’t introduce a new letter. Instead, we reviewed the seven we’ve learned so far (a,i,s,t,c,p,n). The kids are moving and matching the letters and sounds around, and I notice that many are choosing to practice writing their letters after lunch as an activity.
The cars are always a hit, and today Andrew and Rowan did some problem solving as they tried to figure out why one car wouldn’t stay on the track, while another always did. I asked them, are they the same weight? They took them to the bucket balance to check it out. After that initial test, I watched them test other cars throughout the day.
Every Thanksgiving table needs a turkey, so the kids got creative with some supplies and made some paper tube and paper cup turkeys (or chickens, if you’re Quinn: he doesn’t like Thanksgiving turkey), and they are as unique as the kids who made them.
Have a great holiday weekend! Next week, we will pick up with the sense of taste and the letter K.
