Polar bears and penguins galore; oh, they are so cute!! This week, the babies stamped their footprints and hand prints to be made into adorable penguins and polar bears which will be used as decor on our new classroom igloo and part of a special Hanukah project for another classroom.
The igloo is ready for play and exploration. It already is a big hangout spot in the classroom and is a source of fun and entertainment.
Miss Sarah read the giant Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear book and That’s Not My Penguin. Both books have become favorites and the babes love to point out the animals!! Many other books were read this week including two favorites in Katom, a Colors book and Sunday with Seurat.
We started talking about Chanukah and highlighting the words, dreidel and candles. We read many books and have a plush dreidel to help teach the words.
In music this week, Cantor is also teaching about the dreidel and the candles. In one particular song, the kids do the motions mimicking the candles burning, melting and going to sleep and our babes are thoroughly entertained by watching them.
We also brought out the instruments this week to make music of our own singing our new winter songs about snowmen and snowflakes. A particularly popular toy in our classroom is a musical turtle. It plays classical melodies with mesmerizing light effects. The babies love interacting with this toy and hearing the various instrument sounds.
It was fun to see all the babes dress in sportswear for sports dress up day on Wednesday. Many sports were represented including the Twins, the Wild, the Gophers, the Jayhawks, and also ice skating.
We had fun in the classroom rolling and tossing around balls, especially the soft snowballs.
Next week, the babies will experience sensory bags filled with foam snowflakes and glitter and we’ll celebrate Chanukah as a whole school on Wednesday.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Warmly, Miss Heidi, Miss Sarah, Miss Rosie, and Miss Hannah
