Hello Tzahov families. This week we focused on emotions. It was a happy, sad, exciting, celebratory, and mixed up emotions kind of week. The babes had loads of fun, shed some “don’t wipe my nose” tears, made beautiful pieces of art, one celebrated a birthday, and throughout their week, they experienced many mixed up emotions.
Fun activities we did this week included reading books, singing songs, building towers, playing with recycled jars and lids, driving cars around the room, throwing balls, and blowing bubbles. We sang a lot of “If You’re Happy and You Know It” in a variety of ways. When we witnessed sad or mad feelings, the song changed to “If You’re Sad and You Know It” or “Mad and You Know It”. Books we read were Smile by Roberta Intrater. This is a fabulous book showing multicultural baby faces with various emotions. We also read Baby Faces with illustrations by Dawn Machell. The babes really like this one because it is a lift the flap interactive book revealing real baby faces with emotions.
We had a lot of opportunities labeling emotions this week. The newest cold/virus making it’s way around our room contributed to the many emotions that the babes felt physically as well as mentally this week. One example of this is when we wiped noses. The babes felt frustrated and angry. We currently have emerging walkers who feel pride when taking steps. We make it a big deal and show our excitement by celebrating with them.
One prominent focus this week was reading and interpreting the book, My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss. The book was read over and over and the babes created beautiful multi textured art which is displayed in the hallway for everyone to admire. Many of the babes showed curiosity to the stickiness of the glue; some showed apprehension when the materials stuck to their hands.
Today is Oliver’s first birthday and we are overjoyed watching him grow. He is such a love with a tremendous amount of curiosity. Happy first birthday, Oliver!
We want to congratulate Cooper as he moves up to Kahol after Thanksgiving. His last day will be next Wednesday with us. We will miss his playfulness and smiles!
There will not be a blog next week due to Thanksgiving and the short week. We are thankful for all of you and wish you a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
Warm wishes, Miss Heidi and Miss Sarah
