Hello and happy Friday!
SO many things happening in the preschool room right now! Friendships are blooming, new interests are being discovered, and brains are hard at work.
Slowly but surely we are getting into a groove and together figuring out the way we want to organize toys in the room and how to best transition through our busy schedule!
This week there were a lot of materials to choose from for building and connecting, a designated table for puzzles, and a few different rotating items in the sensory bin.
The Jewish new year continued as we discussed the meaning of upcoming Yom Kippur and how to say sorry for mistakes we made. At the beginning of the week everyone painted cards to write apologies to people we might have hurt.
Later in the week we read the book Sammy Spider’s First Yom Kippur and saw that even if you hurt someone by accident, it is important to apologize and think of how you could handle the situation better next time. Each student came up with their own idea for who they wanted to say sorry to and why.
During our group time we also started learning the first theme of our Second Step program: Welcoming. This week we welcomed a new puppet friend named Sagol (yes he shares the same name as our classroom, how special and easy to remember)! To welcome him everyone practiced saying hello and greeting Sagol with their own name. The next day we heard a story about Talik, a boy who was feeling nervous on his first day at a new school. Together we thought of our favorite activities to do at school and practiced asking the question “Do you want to play?” as one way to make someone new feel welcome in our space.
Part of our learning time was also used to start working on our skills to focus as a group and follow directions/rules. We played a follow the leader game every day where everyone moves their body with the same motions as I do and stop when I say “stop!” I think the whole class is already expert at this game and we will continue to build on those awesome skills.
Finally this week we also celebrated TWO birthdays!!! Yom Huledet Sameach to Eliet and Eden G!
In the next two weeks we will talk about the Fall season and harvest time to learn about Sukkot that starts right after the new year!
Shabbat Shalom and Shanah Tovah!
