Welcome to the end of a short but exciting week here in the preschool room! This week we focused on the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. This book uses rhyme and rhythm to show all the letters of the alphabet. Throughout the week we did various activities to practice letter recognition and work our brains in fun and different ways.
First on Monday we welcomed a new friend to our class- Seth! Everyone was very welcoming and we are so happy to have Seth join us.
During group time all week we looked at two new emotions – scared/afraid and surprised. We learned that two ways to figure out how someone is feeling are to look at their face for clues and focus on the situation around them.
Monday was also another fabulous art class day with Miss Beth! She led our classes in a rainbow painting with many colorful materials to glue on the rainbows for a 3D effect.
On Tuesday morning friends were invited to the table to connect picture cards with their matching upper and lowercase letter pieces. I knew this would be extra tricky for most of the group but with some help, each friend that tried was able to connect several letter/picture combinations.
For our activity we read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and worked on matching Uppercase “Mommas and Papas and Uncles and Aunts” to their “little dears” lowercase letter on the coconut tree. This was definitely challenging but practiced good skills like cutting and glueing, letter recognition, and focusing attention.
Wednesday was Alex’s 3rd birthday! We were so excited to celebrate together with her mommy and sister Maya at lunch time.
Wednesday was also a music class day with Shana. We sang all of the favorites and learned some more fun Purim songs!
The group activity today was a “STEM challenge” to build a coconut tree that could hold as many letters as possible. I provided cardboard tubes, pieces of foam, glue stick, and magnet letters but no other directions for how to complete the challenge. It was very cool to watch what each friend came up with!
Thursday will be book character dress up day! We can’t wait to see all of our friends dressed up as their favorite characters.
We will read the books that we dressed as and do an activity with the letters in our own names. Next week we will learn about Purim and superheroes!
Wishing you all a great weekend!
