Adom Room אדום (Toddlers)

Hello friends and family! This week in Adom was a BIG one as we had to say goodbye to two brand new Preschoolers, Asher and Eliana! Congrats on moving up to the big leagues! With a slightly smaller class, we were able to focus on each of our toddlers a little more, which is always a welcome change! We have already been preparing for some newcomers to Adom as well, so keep an eye out for some brand new friends at the end of the month!

In related news, we had to say goodbye to Ms. Alyssa, who will be starting a new position elsewhere. She had a great last day on Monday, and got to say goodbye and get pictures with the whole class, even stopping by preschool a few times to visit Asher and Eliana. We wish Ms. Alyssa the best of luck in her new position, and say a HUGE thank you to her for everything she has done for our friends at BSY!

We appreciate all the work it has taken to prepare for the colder seasons, and may ask for a few more things as the weather continues to change! We have nice layers and hats and mittens for most everyone, and we will let you know if anything else should come up!

This week we had an emphasis on shapes and colors, making sure our toddlers have a good grasp on not only what a shape’s name is, but why it is that shape! Most of our toddlers had no issues with our Monday activity of matching shapes and colors to the teacher’s example. We have been using songs to help understand how many sides there are and the characteristics of each shape, including stars and hearts. As we continued through the week we gave them opportunities to play with our shape blocks, identifying colors and developing knowledge of how shapes fit together using magna tile activities.

Tuesday’s activities included singing shape songs and guessing shapes by raising our stars into the sky! We are beginning to develop connections between colors and emotions as well, with books like My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss! We can use this to understand how they feel if they can’t describe it as an emotion, so it’s a very helpful resource.

On Wednesday we continued to practice our shape songs, and on Thursday we got to make pizzas with all kinds of toppings as shapes! They got to glue their favorite colored shapes onto their “pizzas,” and we named them all afterward! Red Circle pizza might sound plain but it looked really good to me!

And on Friday we are doing a shape sorting activity, using cups and tweezers to sort objects by shapes and colors! It’s a bit of a review week, but we’ve had a blast making sure our kids know their shapes and colors, and definitely deciding what shapes and colors are our favorites. (Mr. Eric likes hearts and pink/blue, but you probably already know that!)

Ms. Katie will be back teaching the kids next week along with Mr. Eric. We will be learning all about our five senses: taste, touch, smell, sight, and sound!

Shabbat Shalom,

Mr. Eric, Mr. Avi & Ms. Katie
