Hebrew Update: Gayle Kaplan

Hi. It’s pouring rain right now, which I try to appreciate by telling myself it’s good for the plants. 🙂

What’s also good is all the fun your students are having learning Hebrew letters, Hebrew vocabulary through HTM (Hebrew through Movement), and Jewish Life Vocabulary.

Last week our Jewish Life Vocabulary focused on Rosh Hashanah.  This coming week, the focus in on Yom Kippur.  I love the phrase צום קל – tzom kal – which we say to wish each other- “an easy fast.”  It’s so typically Jewish to me that, yes, we’re going to fast, but let’s be practical and make it as easy as possible.

After Yom Kippur, the holiday season continues with the week long holiday of Sukkot (סוכות), so the Letter of the Week for October 6 – 11 is ס samech.  During Sukkot, we say the blessings over the lulav and etrog in the sukkah (סכה) and may eat some meals or even sleep there.  Your students will also see the picture of a  סוס (sus) – horse.  You may remember the word  סוס  from the teachers’ song on the first day of school.
