7th grade is off to a great start! We jumped right in learning about Kibud Zekaynim (Honoring the elderly). Students had a great time visiting Sholom Home, and came back with thoughtful insights about the importance of honoring the elderly in our community. We are now learning about B’tzelem Elohim (All people are created in God’s image). This Sunday, a representative from the Pacer Center will be coming to speak about the importance of inclusion. When we engage in the community through trips and speakers, students are able to apply what we are learning in the classroom to the greater Twin Cities. I have been so proud of the respect and interest students have shown as we learn with our neighbors and community members. A reminder that parents can find the information about field trips and speakers on the Bet Shalom website.
When we are not learning about the values that shape ourselves as members of the Jewish community, we are learning about the history of Jewish America. I have been impressed with your children’s ability to see the world through the eyes of someone living in early colonial America, or as an immigrant from exiled Spain.
Teaching your children is truly a highlight of my week, and I look forward to a wonderful year! Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns via email!
All the best,
