Shanah Tovah third grade families.
I hope the start to your year has gone well for you. The first month of class has gone very well for me. I love this group’s readiness to learn and quest for knowledge. We started out the year learning about the Hebrew calendar. Ask your child what Hebrew month we are in and what the difference is between the Jan- Dec calendar and the Hebrew calendar. We have learned a lot about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We have read from our classroom book called, My Jewish Year as well as taken notes on a fill-in-the-blank style worksheet. On Sunday, your child will take home “flashcards” to review all that we have learned. There are no tests to take, just knowledge to gain.
We have also been learning about ways we connect with God. In our first lesson, we learned that even though we cannot see God, we can see and feel God all around us in nature and in our relationships. In our second lesson, we learned that one way to talk to God is by praising God in blessings. The last piece of our curriculum is Hebrew. Through the “Letter of the Week,” Hebrew Through Movement, and the Hebrew I speak in class, I am already seeing a lot of understanding and interest to learn the language. I look forward to next month when we’ll learn about Sukkot and Simchat Torah, strengthen our connection to God and expand the class’ Hebrew vocabulary.
If there are ever any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. I want this year to be the best for everyone!
