Bet Shalom is blessed with a variety of dedicated funds that serve a wide range of congregational needs. A number of the funds, though extremely worthwhile, are relatively unknown to our congregants. For that reason we plan to highlight a “Featured Fund” from time to time, providing more information about that fund’s goals.
Our dedicated funds have been established to provide such things as scholarships, support for programs and facility enhancements that would not be possible with the constraints of our operating budget. Many of these funds were established through the generosity of donors many years ago, and they are in need of being replenished, and grown, to meet increased demand. We hope you will consider the dedicated funds when making honorary or memorial donations, or any time you are looking for a way to support Bet Shalom.
Thomas B’nai Mitzvah Scholarship Fund
Our current Featured Fund is the Paul Thomas B’nai Mitzvah Scholarship Fund. This fund was established by his wife, Shirley Thomas and their children, Shelly and Rick Christensen and Ralph Thomas. Paul had a deep and abiding commitment to the ideal that all Jewish children have the opportunity to receive a Jewish education and to fulfill the Mitzvot of Judaism, and so this fund has the potential of touching the lives of so many Bet Shalomians.
Perhaps you were the beneficiary of this fund when your child was preparing for that big day and now can do a follow up mitzvah to make it possible for another child to receive support. Or maybe you have been at a Shabbat morning service to say kaddish or just to worship with your congregation and were impressed by the teaching that you heard from the bimah’s 13 year old leader that day. A contribution to this fund will acknowledge how many ways our congregation reaches our members.
If you have questions about any of the dedicated funds please contact Andrea Blumberg at andrea.blumberg@betshalom.org. We would be happy to help steer your contributions to those funds that are near and dear to you and your family’s greatest passions.
