I am directing
the Preschool at Bet Shalom because of my
passion for early childhood education. As an
elementary school teacher my most rewarding
experience came when I saw the enthusiasm on a
child’s face when they mastered a new skill,
learned a new word, or created something
unique. As a parent I shared the experiences of
my children as they mastered new skills, learned
new words or created something unique. I was
aware their enthusiasm began early in their
developmental years. As preschoolers their
enthusiasm for learning was evident. They
retained much of what they learned. It was
evident that the preschool years were a very
important learning time.
My youngest
children attended a Jewish preschool and enjoyed
the Jewish Holidays, learned the Shabbat
blessings and began basic Hebrew. They were
secure in their religion at very young age. I
decided to return to teaching when my children
were attending elementary school. I chose the
preschool level and later joined a Jewish
preschool. I believe young children need to
understand their religion and develop enthusiasm
for learning about their beliefs. They need to
develop friendships with other Jewish
children. There is no better time to begin life
long Jewish learning than in preschool.
At Shalom
Yeladim we incorporate our Jewish learning with
secular learning. Children develop social skills
and learn many other skills through play. They
develop a sense of belonging in a Jewish
environment. They are truly part of a family of
friends learning and growing together.
