It is important that the younger members of
our community have ample opportunity to explore
their Jewish identity outside of the classroom.
Both junior (7th-8th grades) and senior
(9th-12th grades) youth groups offer a social
setting in a Jewish context. The senior youth
group, BeSTY, is affiliated with the
North American
Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY). Conclaves,
special study sessions, retreats, tzedakah and
social action are important aspects of the
programs. Youth groups called "Chavereem" (3rd &
4th grades) and "Macabeem" (5th & 6th grades)
include the younger members of our congregation
in various activities.
Our children are encouraged to offer their time
and energies to congregational functions, to
write and lead worship services, participate in
an innovative B'nai Mitzvah program, and attend
the Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute
Camp during the summer.
Bet Shalom welcomes input from congregants who
are interested in the continued growth and
development of our youth programs. The
Youth
Activities Committee has been established as a
forum to address our youth programming concerns.
New committee members are always welcome. The
committee acts as a liaison between the
congregation and the youth groups. It helps to
establish policies, coordinate activities, and
provide guidance and support as needed to assure
the smooth operation of the groups.
